Led Astray

I didn't do much embroidery or knitting over the weekend. Why not? A friend gave me a pile of back issues of knitting magazines and I spent my time leafing through them. I read about things like illusion knitting that I'd never heard of. I like reading interviews with designers - how they started, what inspires them etc. I put markers in pages that I plan to come back to, so that I don't have to go through the whole pile again to find them. There's a pair of socks that I simply must knit!

  1. What a good friend you have, these magazines I find very useful, I usually pick them up in charity shops for next to nothing!

  2. I love looking through magazines for inspiration! I don't think I've ever remembered to mark pages, though... great idea!

  4. Knitters do simply astounding things with illusion knitting. I've seen lots of it up close and personal and am always in awe of the technique. Dare you...: ))

    1. :-) I am tempted, I must admit. Have to start off with something small. But since I also want to try double knitting and casting on a picot edge... I can see that illusion knitting could be addictive.

    1. Hmm. You knit stripes in two contrasting colours, working some stitches as knit instead of purl on the return row, following a chart. From one angle it just looks like narrow stripes, but from another angle a picture shows. Sometimes a very complicated picture!

  6. Ah, I am led astray often by flipping through magazines! I think I have waaaaay too many things "marked" to ever get anything done :)

  7. I got a ring binder and some plastic sleeves and place the articles and pictures in them and then toss the magazines away when I am done I look at this many times. A good friend showed me how to do this and I am on my second binder now. If you feel you are running out of space this works well. But you may already know this :)

    1. I used to do that with recipes. I tend to keep craft magazines intact because even the things I don't actually want to make are inspiring.
